Pay slip anyone?

Dear employee,

Each company has a payroll software used to calculate the salaries of all the staff at the end of each month (Sage is a famous one in Morocco). These payroll softwares are implemented according to the Moroccan social insurance regulations, income tax regulations, and retirement and health insurance contracts specific to each company. After calculating the salaries, the software generates pay slips that can be downloaded and printed. Each company has an obligation to give out the pay slips to all the employees at the end of every month. If the company does not give you yours at the end of the month, it is your right to ask for it.

Why do you need a pay slip?

  • You can use it when you apply for visa to other countries. The consulates usually ask for the pay slips of the last 3 months.
  • You can use it when you are trying to rent a new place. Crazy right?
  • You can use it when you are trying to get a loan from the bank. They usually ask for the pay slips of the last 3 months.
  • You can use it to check the details of the calculation of your salary.
  • You can use it to check the social security, health insurance, retirement, and tax deductions.
  • You can use it in court sometimes if your lawyer requests it after a car accident
  • You can check your annual leave balance in the pay slip. Some employers mention the balance of your annual leave on the pay slip.

In Morocco, each pay slip mentions 26 days of work most of the time. The structure of the pay slip changes according to each company’s policy. Your pay slip contains fixed amounts and sometimes variable amounts as well. Remember that your gross salary is your salary INCLUDING all the social insurance, health insurance, retirement and tax deductions. Your net salary is the salary that is sent to your bank account at the end of the month. A lot of people confuse the two and when they sign a contract with a new employer, they are shocked to find out that the amount mentioned in their contract is actually a gross amount that will have deductions on it and it is not the total amount to be received by them at the end of the month.

Precious piece of advice: get the company’s stamp on the pay slip. DO NOT FORGET THAT EVER.

With that being said, while all you probably care about is the salary you receive at the end of the month, it is good to be informed about these details. What do you think?
